CENTRAL FALLS CHESS TEAM GOES TO THE 2008 NATIONALS

Here are the Central Falls MS/HS Teams Final Results after 7 rounds of the K-12 National High School Chess Championships held in Atlanta, Ga on April 18-20, 2008. All games were G/120 where each opponent had 2 hours each to play seven (4 hour games) in each round. There were 7 rounds during the 3 days of competition. There were 1232 players from almost 40 different states who participated *At one point after Round 4 the Central Falls U1200 "A-Team" was in 1st place, and Boris Colindres was in 1st Place after Round 5; but competition was tense and long and after 3 days, the team/individual competition settled with these results which we are proud to report the best ever results for any Central Falls team who has participated in the Nationals. FINAL RESULTS FOR RHODE ISLAND PLAYERS: Central Falls Team finished 7th PLACE (out of 60 Teams) in the U1200 Section and completed the tournament as the BEST TEAM IN THE NORTHEAST Central Falls Team finished 12TH PLACE (out of 31 Teams) in the U800 Section. Boris Colindres (Central Falls High School) received 5th PLACE (out of 320 players) in the U1200 Section. Sam Kirsch (Providence Country Day School) received 16th PLACE (out of 320 players) in the U1200 Section. All Rhode Island students who participated received chess medals!
